The KFColonel is breaking off another sumthin' sumthin'
Quick! Find your local KFC and make plans to become a pawn in their game of advertising because the Colonel is at it again.
According to the AP, KFC is unveiling another free chicken offer, and this time, it's grilled.
The freebie is set for one day only this Monday, when more than 5,000 KFCs will give every U.S. customer a free piece of grilled chicken.
The unfortunate thing is the Colonel can't even squawk about this without promising the past will not repeat itself. How so?
KFC's latest freebie will be minus Oprah Winfrey's star power from a May giveaway. And KFC President Roger Eaton promises there won't be any of the problems when a free grilled chicken coupon on Oprah's Web site overwhelmed the chain and some outlets ran out of chicken.
It's a nice PR grab. KFC didn't focus on one social media engine versus another or one medium versus another. This story was done via the release.
Will it be a PR success? The stories coming out show some nice ROI, but many of them includes the president's mea culpa. So, who knows but great idea nonetheless.
One thing I do know is what has two thumbs and a serious hankering for some grilled chicken.
