One man's oil spill is another's treasure
According to the crawl on most national networks, it's "Day Some Such" on the BP Watch. (And isn't that a clarion call that your crisis PR isn't working?)
Anywhoo, once upon a time kids, there was this company based here in Irving known for another "Crude Mistake". (Thanks. I'm here all week.)
That company is ExxonMobil and it's little tugboat - the Valdez - was carrying 1.2 million barrels of oil that flushed into the Atlantic off the coast of Alaska. The spill cost the company anywhere from $2.2 to $4 billion. Untold damage was done to the ecosystem. And the PR hit that company took was insurmountable.
Yet, recently, the company found a way to turn that oil-stained frown upside down, according to an article in the Dallas Business Journal.
Alan Jeffers, a spokesman with Irving-based Exxon, said (CEO Rex) Tillerson answered questions about the oil leakage during the company’s annual stockholders meeting Wednesday morning. Tillerson said Exxon is providing BP with technical support teams made up of engineers and scientists to help the U.K.-based company develop solutions to stop the leak.
The moral of this story BP is that it's never too late to do right by your mistakes, even if you have to be the living case study for the next guy. Your PR team should be trolling Google by now for more information. If not, call me?
