Let's party with dead people. Meh... it isn't as morbid as you think
Well, we haven't been asked to plan an event or create a website for one yet, but it looks like we may have a new entertainment venue on our hands: cemeteries.
Yesterday, the Denver Post reported the 260-acre, 103-year-old Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery in Colorado is reinventing itself as more than a mourning spot, now scheduling concerts and art exhibitions in hopes of bringing in more interaction with the community.
Crown Hill follows the lead of Denver's historic Fairmount Cemetery, which hosts "First Friday" social events, summer potlucks and concerts that pay tribute to Colorado history.
Is this a trend? I kind of hope so.
I spent some time in Los Angeles in 2008, and one of the highlights of my stay there was a visit to the Hollywood Forever cemetery on a cool summer night for one of the famous Cinespia screenings, in which hundreds of people show up with picnics, wine, and blankets to watch some of Hollywood's best performances projected onto Rudolph Valentino's mausoleum wall.

I watched the amazing Badlands when I went. This Saturday, they are screening Beetlejuice.
Many cemeteries offer gorgeous, open settings. The money collected from event admission can go toward foundations or upkeep of the grounds. And I honestly believe the dead like the company. So, if you have an event coming up, think about it. And call us.
Cher is considering a new farewell tour. Ehhh, cemeteries, maybe not the best venues for her. But for Lady GaGa's next tour? Oh hell yeah.
