Does Twitter confront its issues, or just unfollow them?
Twitter, like most Intertube-based companies, has this aura that they office in Neverland.
Locally, several dot-coms adorn our fare burgh, which fall subject to that same issue. I was talking with a flack friend of mine newly out of college about a dot-com that will go unnamed and his response was, "Oh, they have an actual office in a building?"
Suffice to say, real estate issues and property taxes may not be considered to be an issue for a company in this ilk, but according to Tom Foremski of SiliconValleyWatcher.com, it is.
In fact, he had a few blog posts laced with vitriol offered up to Sean Garrett, Twitter's PR chief. The summary of the story is this:
SF Appeal reports that Twitter wanted an eight year tax break to stay in San Francisco and not move to Brisbane, California, instead of the six years that the city agreed to provide.
That got Tom all lathered up, to wit:
Twitter is a company that loves to tout its commitment to social responsibility but clearly this is just public relations chatter. When it comes to paying its local taxes, which goes to support San Francisco local community services and infrastructure, it wants to take away community resources.
Garrett apparently has had it up to - - - here with that mess. So, instead of writing an editorial, a comment, a nice retort, he does something only fitting for the communications guy of Twitter: He unfollowed Foremski.
Anyone know how to tweet a high-five to this guy? The irony of that is hilarious.
Good times on what seems to be a slow news day.
