Does Social Media Force Us to be Antisocial?

HCK2 is a place full of social media experts. In fact, one of them is asking me (a lot) to blog, so there's my inspiration. Thanks, Doctor.

To help our clients and our agency, the PR team has a system called 'NewsWatch' where we all have a dedicated publication that we review for headlines associated with, or written about, our clients.

Last month, I read an article in the New York Times that focused on the technology formerly known as "telephone calls."

It got me thinking, "Do people really want to use the phone anymore?"

When we pitch our clients, we have to use the phone to follow up; however, many in this business refuse to do that and pray their e-mail doesn't hit a spam filter.

And then you have the journalist that scans Caller ID before ever picking up a call in fear it may be that PR person who really isn't that kind on the phone.

Has social media made us lazy or careless when it comes to picking up a phone, because trust me, there is nothing more effective than a nice phone call to convey your feelings or discuss your clients.

PR professionals, I encourage you to follow your instincts - call first, tweet later.
