Josh Hamilton floors Rangers fans

If you are a Rangers' fan, you already know the shot heard 'round the Metroplex that caused people to jump on their new carpet and countertops. If not, lemme explain:

CC Carpet (which is currently experiencing massive issues on its website) hosted the "Grand Slam Payoff." Essentially, Steve Fitzgerald, owner of CC Carpet, issued a commercial late last month and declared that if Josh Hamilton hits a grand slam, anyone who purchased flooring or countertops in September would get a refund.

That seems like an easy bet, only Hambone hasn't dinged a grand slam in more than three years. (A little Baseball nerddom there, sorry.) And then, IT happened - in the fourth inning of last night's game with the Cleveland Indians, he cranks one. Then, the sound you heard was CC Carpet's insurance company hurling itself out of the window.

According to the ESPN Dallas story, Fitzgerald said he estimates that Hamilton's blast probably saved customers a little more than $500,000.

Hamilton said he thought about the promotion as he came to the plate.

"The situation doesn't come up often, so when it does you can't help but think about it," Hamilton said. "I'm in the business of giving back. I like to help people as much as I can by giving back. So that's cool."

The cool industry story about this is CC Carpet getting national, free advertising over this deal. Certainly, no one in Billings, Montana is going to ask for their driveway to be covered with shag carpet, but hey, at least that notable jingle will become a YouTube sensation.
