Remembering Steve Jobs

If ever the Internet could unite under a single, black banner, Steve Jobs' losing fight to pancreatic cancer is it. Have you been online lately?

Check out the home page to Wired.com. Google.com. And then there's the lovely reminder on Apple.com. What a genius this guy was, and to think, his pioneering ways will be felt from my kids today as they fiddle with their iPod Touch, fight over my iPhone and wrestle while they watch a movie from Pixar studios (which he co-founded).

Few people reach the plateau of revolutionizing a world. That distinction is reserved for people like Henry Ford, Bill Gates and Walt Disney. Add Jobs to that Mount Rushmore and you have quite the group of heralded individuals. His 313 patents will be placed in the annals of geekdom, pop culture and everyday life for sure.

I have read many touching tributes on the mercurial man who gave us so much and for whom many knew so little. However, one of the most outstanding sentences comes from President Obama ('s speechwriter). I mean, this is brilliant stuff from his blog post:

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented.

The man not only changed technology; he changed lives.
