Blanket North Texas with Kindness
Today kicks off the 8th Annual “Share the Warmth” blanket drive created by Sleep Experts. This year, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas (our client) have partnered with Sleep Experts to collect new or gently used blankets that will be donated to Family Gateway – a non-profit organization that helps homeless families become self-sufficient.
Blankets can be dropped off at any of Sleep Experts 35 store locations now through Thanksgiving. And, if you know a Girl Scout, she can collect the blanket for donation as well.
According to Robert Alberts, executive director of Family Gateway, family homelessness is a silent epidemic affecting thousands of children in Dallas County. If you didn’t know – families with children are the fastest growing homeless group. Alberts says that a gift of a blanket can give a homeless child a sense of home, comfort and stability.
As the Girl Scouts move into its next century, the organization is still living its principle of serving the community through programs like Share the Warmth.
Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas CEO Colleen Walker states, “Many people do not know that Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas provides the “Gift of Girl Scouting” to more than 4,000 girls each year through programming supported by community partners. Each fall, our Girl Scouts help their very own sisters by donating warm clothing to girls in our underserved areas.”
Christine Cook, wife, mom and president of Sleep experts points out that the holidays is a season of giving and asks the North Texas community to help give the simple gift of warmth and comfort to homeless children and families.
In addition to blankets, Sleep Experts accepts donations of other comfort items including sheets, pillows, comforters and towels. For a list of store locations and maps visit www.sleepexperts.com/stores/all-stores/.
