Ability Connection + My Possibilities

Merger Communications

When Ability Connection and My Possibilities, two Texas nonprofits serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, prepared to merge, communicating the change required particular care.

HCK2 helped the organizations navigate the transition with a coordinated internal and external communications strategy designed to keep employees, families and the broader community informed throughout the process.

For the individuals and families served by the organizations, the merger naturally raised questions about program and service continuity. Internally, the organizations also needed to communicate thoughtfully with employees as the combination resulted in some redundant positions.

The challenge was to communicate openly and proactively while recognizing that different audiences had different questions, concerns and information needs.

HCK2 helped guide the timing, messaging and sequencing of communications so key internal audiences could understand the change before it was introduced more broadly.

We developed a co-branded identity for the merger and carried it across social media, email, letterhead and website communications, giving the organizations a consistent visual and verbal framework for the announcement.

Messaging prioritized clarity around program continuity and helped both organizations address sensitive questions directly rather than allowing uncertainty to fill the information gap.

The coordinated rollout gave Ability Connection and My Possibilities a thoughtful framework for communicating a complex organizational change to employees, families and the community.

External media outreach generated two earned media placements with a combined potential audience of 42,390, extending awareness of the merger beyond the organizations’ immediate stakeholders.

Most importantly, the communications strategy kept the people affected by the merger at the center of the process, helping both organizations navigate the transition with clarity and care.
