Every child deserves a chance to soar, and no one better understands this than Jonathan’s Place, which hosted its second annual “A Chance To Soar” luncheon this week at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas. HCK2 was excited to help with media outreach for such a wonderful event and for such a special not-for-profit organization.

Jonathan’s Place is the only licensed emergency shelter in Dallas County for children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected. Since 1995, Jonathan’s Place has served more than 3,800 children who received the love, care and hope to help them heal.

This year’s event attracted more than 350 guests, including keynote speaker Steve Pemberton, chief diversity officer and divisional vice president of Walgreens, and author of the autobiography, “A Chance In The World: An Orphan Boy, a Mysterious Past, and How He Found a Place Called Home”. Steve shared his inspirational and emotional story of his difficult journey through foster care and his determined search for a better life.

Joining Steve was emcee Scott Murray, honorary chair Lisa Troutt, luncheon chairs Connie Miles and Kathy Jeffrey, host committee chair Pam Busbee of Mohr Partners, and our personal fave, Jonathan’s Place CEO Allicia Frye.

Along with Steve’s inspirational keynote address, the most moving part of the luncheon was when two former Jonathan’s Place children – now young adults – and a current Jonathan’s Place foster mom took center stage to share their personal stories of struggle and triumph.

Event proceeds will go toward the operations of Jonathan’s Place to help fund its emergency shelter, foster and adoptive family program, and girl’s treatment program.
