Hanging at the water cooler

  • Best prank?
  • Repainted the engineers’ cairn when I was a (poli sci) undergrad at the University of British Columbia. With a friend, we changed the “E” to a “P”. Late at night. Beverages were involved.
  • Favorite drink?
  • Gin & Tonic (Victoria or Empress Gin, Fever Tree Tonic, wedge of lime. Enough said.)
  • Proudest moment?
  • A tie: my wedding day, and the day I got my undergrad degree (first in my family since 1844 to graduate from university).
  • Would you rather be stuck in the Twilight Zone or the Bermuda Triangle?
  • I’ve been in both of them since around 1990, so will let you know my preferences once I emerge…
  • Which celebrity or performer would you pick to narrate your life?
  • Donald Sutherland. Best voice in the business (and fellow Canadian).

Jim Savage

Executive Director

Jim joined HCK2 in 2020 as Executive Director after serving six years as General Manager of the North Texas office of Pierpont Communications, as well as leading the corporate practice of Edelman public relations and marketing consultancy in Dallas.

His depth and breadth of experience is, perhaps, unparalleled. Prior to joining Edelman, Jim served as EVP Marketing and Communications for Canada’s Western Financial Group, Vice President of Corporate Communications at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, where he sharply increased the measured levels of awareness, reputation and understanding of the Fed’s important work through the 2008-2011 financial crisis.

Jim earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of British Columbia and master’s degree from the London School of Economics. From there, he launched his career at the International Institute of Communications (IIC) in London.  He then went on to serve as Associate Director of the Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC) in Hawaii, an international policy analyst for the Canadian Federal Department of Communications (Industry Canada), Vice President, International Corporate Communications for GTE Corporation (now Verizon) and head of corporate communications and brand at Royal Philips Electronics’ National Canadian Division, with responsibility for brand marketing, advertising and reputation management, and all corporate, financial, professional healthcare and consumer lifestyle communications. Jim also leads the strategic consultancy Kingsbrae Global, and heads the Canada-Texas Chamber of Commerce in Dallas. He is a frequent author and speaker, and serves on the boards of the Institute for Public Relations (IPR), the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations, Communications and Public Affairs School at Southern Methodist University (SMU), Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star-Dallas and is a fellow at Opus Faveo Institutional and Corporate Innovation.
